In the United States, over 7 million Americans have vision loss or blindness, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/visionhealth\/vehss\/estimates\/vision-loss-prevalence.html\">according to a study by the CDC.<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Statistically, this means there are quite a few blind celebrities. Here are a few famous people who are blind or have low vision:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lachi<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lachi is a singer-songwriter, touring performer, producer, actress, author, disability advocate, and cultural activist. As a blind performer, Lachi speaks and performs regularly at Disability Pride events and promotes disability representation and inclusion in media. She has worked closely with the organization <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.divaswithdisabilities.org\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Divas with Disabilities<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In 2020, <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/07\/24\/arts\/disability-movies-books-tv.html\">the New York Times listed Lachi<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in an article on 28 ways to learn about disability culture. Lachi has established herself as a disability advocate in the music industry, and has spoken and performed at the White House, the United Nations, the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, and the BBC. Wonder was born six weeks premature, which resulted in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">retinopathy of prematurity<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a condition in which the growth of the eyes is aborted and causes the retinas to detach, causing blindness.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Andrea Bocelli<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Italian tenor <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Andrea-Bocelli\">Andrea Bocelli<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was born with congenital glaucoma. At age 12, he experienced a brain hemorrhage from a soccer accident and became completely blind in both eyes.
