However, video content, with a combination of both visual and audio media, need closed captions and audio description to be fully accessible.<\/p>\n<div class=\"su-button-center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/go.3playmedia.com\/wp-wcag\" class=\"su-button su-button-style-3d\" style=\"color:#000000;background-color:#DEEFF5;border-color:#b2c0c4;border-radius:10px\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color:#000000;padding:0px 30px;font-size:22px;line-height:44px;border-color:#e8f4f8;border-radius:10px\"> WCAG Captioning and Transcription Standards<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n<h2>Closed Captions<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/2015\/01\/15\/what-is-closed-captioning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Closed captions<\/a> are a textual representation of the sounds on a video, timed with the action on screen. They capture not just the speech but also essential sounds, like [doorbell], [laughter], [applause], etc.<\/p>\n<p>Closed captions appear on the bottom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/services-features\/tools\/vertical-caption-placement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(or top)<\/a> of the screen as the video plays. This allows the viewer to read the text and absorb the visuals at the same time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"testimonial alignright\" style=\"margin: 10px 0 10px 25px!important\">\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"quote\">\u201c<\/span>Ultimately, a video transcript does not offer an equivalent experience for deaf or hard-of-hearing viewers.<span class=\"quote\">\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Without closed captions, a deaf viewer would have to switch back and forth between watching a video and reading a transcript.<\/p>\n<p>This is a very distracting, disjointed experience.<\/p>\n<p>They can easily lose their place, miss key elements onscreen, get out-of-sync with the video &#8212; ultimately, a video transcript does not offer an equivalence experience for deaf or hard-of-hearing viewers.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/info.3playmedia.com\/wp-ada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)<\/a> requires that an equivalent alternative be provided for people with disabilities. This is known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/learn\/popular-topics\/audio-description\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">audio description<\/a>. Audio description communicates all necessary visual information, such as who is onscreen, where they are, what they are doing, their facial expressions, and any writing that is on the screen.<\/p>\n<p>Descriptions can be in the form of a screenreader-accessible text document or an audio recording.
