According to Cisco, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hdtvtest.co.uk\/n\/Video-Streaming-to-Account-for-82-Percent-of-all-Internet-Traffic-by-2022\">82% of the world&#8217;s internet traffic will be video by 2022<\/a> \u2013 an increase from today&#8217;s estimated 80%. As the amount of <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">video increases and technology continues to develop at exceptionally fast rates, expectations and trends for video change as well. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Verizon Media partnered with Publicis Media to examine this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.streamingmedia.com\/Articles\/ReadArticle.aspx?ArticleID=131860\">evolution of video viewing<\/a>. Their results come from an online survey of 5,616 U.S. adults age 18 to 54 conducted in April 2019. There are a number of reasons noted:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"lp-pom-text-936\" class=\"lp-element lp-pom-text nlh\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-row\">\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-3\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-17370\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/VHS.png\" alt=\"VHS\" width=\"86\" height=\"71\" \/><br \/>\n50% agree captions are important and usually watch videos with sound off on mobile &amp; desktop.<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-3\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-17366\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/film-reel.png\" alt=\"film reel\" width=\"109\" height=\"72\" \/><br \/>\n80% say they&#8217;re more likely to watch an entire video with captions.<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-3\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-17362\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/long-train.png\" alt=\"train\" width=\"109\" height=\"47\" \/> \u00a0&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1 in 3 have captions on in a public setting.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Captions provide many benefits in learning environments, such as greater focus, and better comprehension. In a\u00a0national research study conducted with Oregon State University, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/resources\/industry-studies\/student-uses-of-closed-captions-and-transcripts\/\">52% of students said they found captions helpful as a learning aid<\/a> by because it improved comprehension. Captions were also found to provide a better viewing experience overall, as it allowed users to follow along and consume information through multiple senses.<\/p>\n<p>Whether consciously or not, it seems that many viewers are noticing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/2019\/02\/21\/8-benefits-of-transcribing-captioning-videos\/\">these benefits<\/a>, and thoroughly enjoying captioned content. The survey published by <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Verizon Media and Publicis Media<\/span> found that &#8220;consumers expect and want captioning options.&#8221; Clearly, captions are in high demand by many viewers \u2013 by both those who are watching videos with and without sound.<\/p>\n<p>When the sound is on, captions have been shown to spike interest in video content. Additionally, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/accessibility-online-video-stats\/\">41% of videos are incomprehensible without sound,<\/a> and captions can provide the context necessary to consuming and understanding the content.<br \/>\n<div class=\"su-row\">\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-2\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p>37%<br \/>\nof video viewers report captioning encourages them to turn sound on because it made them more interested in the video.<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"su-column su-column-size-1-2\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p>29%<br \/>\nreport they were able to continue watching a video with sound off because captions help them understand the video.<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"su-highlight\" style=\"background:#DEEFF5;color:#000000\">&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/go.3playmedia.com\/wp-10-questions\">How to Select the Right Closed Captioning Vendor: 10 Crucial Questions to Ask<\/a>&nbsp;<\/span> \u27a1\ufe0f<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Consumers Expect and Want Captions<\/h2>\n<p>While captions seem to be <em>wanted<\/em> on most types of content, the <em>expectation\u00a0<\/em>for captioning varies by content type. The expectation to find captions are greater for instructional and informational content such as news content, food content, or other tips\/advice content. Sound is circumstantial, with sound-off being driven by mobile and being on-the-go. 80% of consumers say they are more likely to watch an entire video when captioning is available and when we tested open captioning on video ads we saw increased ad &amp; brand recall, enhanced memory quality, and a lift across both ad and brand perceptions. Advertisers should optimize ads for sound off as part of their strategy by utilizing captioning, over-laid text or other visual cues to deliver their brand message. Advertisers and marketers are finding captions beneficial as well. This might be useful for customer testimonials. Additionally, already written content can be turned into outlines for a presentation, report, blog post, or ebook.<\/p>\n<h3>Easy Translation into Foreign Languages<\/h3>\n<p>Getting your video content transcribed is the first step in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/services-features\/services\/translation-subtitling\/\">creating subtitles in foreign languages,<\/a> which is crucial in today\u2019s global economy.
