they also marked a new phase of the AODA.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">By the date above, all public websites and web content, including video content, posted after January 1, 2012, were required to meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA guidelines.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">What is the AODA?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aoda.ca\/complying-with-aoda-wcag-2-0-distinguishable-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, otherwise known as the AODA, is an accessibility law based in Ontario, Canada, and it regulates standards across government, public, and private sectors. It was enacted in 2005 to create a barrier-free Ontario by 2025.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-25198 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-3-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-3-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-3-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-3-1-75x75.jpg 75w, https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-3-1.jpg 165w, https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-3-1.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-3-1-174x174.jpg 174w, https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Untitled-design-3-1.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Under the AODA, all large private and non-profit organizations with 50 or more employees and all public sector organizations are required to make their websites accessible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">According to the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mcss.gov.on.ca\/en\/mcss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">1 in 7 Ontarians<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0has a disability, which is expected to rise in the coming years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To attain the goal of a barrier-free Ontario, the AODA has set forth a series of implementation phases to reach full compliance by 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If companies aren\u2019t proactive about accessibility, there are penalties for failing to comply with the law. WCAG is the internationally accepted standard for website accessibility developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">When organizations follow WCAG standards, they make their content accessible to users with disabilities. Considering the fact that\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.3playmedia.com\/learn\/popular-topics\/closed-captioning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">71% of people with disabilities leave a website immediately if it\u2019s inaccessible<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, following WCAG will help attract and retain visitors to your site.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Each WCAG guideline has three levels of compliance: level A, AA, and AAA. Level AA is considered the industry standard for web accessibility and is referenced in many laws and policies worldwide, including the AODA.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><div class=\"su-box su-box-style-default\" id=\"\" style=\"border-color:#004b82;border-radius:5px;\"><div class=\"su-box-title\" style=\"background-color:#007EB5;color:#FFFFFF;border-top-left-radius:3px;border-top-right-radius:3px\">WCAG Levels<\/div><div class=\"su-box-content su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"border-bottom-left-radius:3px;border-bottom-right-radius:3px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Level A is highest priority and usually easiest to achieve.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Level AA is more comprehensive and the standard to comply with the AODA.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Level AAA is the strictest, most comprehensive accessible design standard. It is the least common level to meet.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/go.3playmedia.com\/wp-aoda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Are your videos compliant with the AODA? <span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u27a1\ufe0f<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Producing WCAG-Compliant Videos<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For video content to comply with WCAG 2.0 Level AA, it must be made accessible with captions and audio description.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">For time-based media, like online video content, here\u2019s what your organization needs to provide:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><div class=\"su-box su-box-style-default\" id=\"\" style=\"border-color:#b3003c;border-radius:5px;\"><div class=\"su-box-title\" style=\"background-color:#E6006F;color:#FFFFFF;border-top-left-radius:3px;border-top-right-radius:3px\">Audio-Only &amp;
